ABSTRACT

In the prevention and treatment of novel coronavirus pneumonia, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has played an important role in blocking the development of the disease, reducing the severity and fatality rate, and also helping the functional recovery after infection, which has strongly promoted the development of TCM industry in China. The registration data from the Center for Drug Evaluation shows that 2021 is the largest year for TCM registration in the past 10 years. Pharmaceutical companies in Hubei, Shandong and Jilin are the most active. The target indications are focused on traditional dominant areas, such as digestion and metabolism diseases, respiratory system, more than 90% of registrations have been approved. Six out of 59 new have been reported for production and three drugs have been approved until the retrieval date. These data show that the enthusiasm for the development of TCM was significantly improved, new drug research has become more active. This positive new development trend will help to develop more high-quality TCM, greatly alleviate clinical needs and better protect people’s health. © 2022 Editorial Office of Chinese Traditional and Herbal Drugs. ABSTRACT

Background: Medical workers have been increasingly involved in emergent public health events, which can lead to severe stress. However, no standardized, officially recognized, unified tool exists for mental distress measurement in medical workers who experienced the public health events. Purpose: In the present study, we propose the Global Health Events-Mental Stress Scale (GHE-MSS), as a revised version of the Impact of Event Scale-Revision (IES-R), for assessment of medical workers' acute mental stress responses within one month and their chronic mental stress responses within six months after major health events. Patients and methods: The IES-R was slightly modified, developed, and its reliability and validity were tested using the Delphi survey, primary survey with 115 participants, formal survey with 300 participants, and clinical evaluation with 566 participants. Results: Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis confirmed a promising validity of the scale. The values of Cronbach's alpha coefficient, the Spearman-Brown coefficient, and the retested Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the scale applied for the clinical evaluation were 0.88, 0.87, and 0.98, respectively, which confirmed a good internal consistency and stability. The results of the goodness-of-fit test indicated a good adaptation of the model. A correlation analysis was conducted to assess the correlation between the GHE-MSS and the PCL-C, which had a correlation coefficient of 0.68 (P < 0.01). Conclusion: GHE-MSS can be applied with a promising reliability and validity for the assessment of the acute mental stress response of medical workers experiencing public health events. This method can also be used for the screening of mental stress-associated disorders.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To summarize the rules of acupoint selection of acupoint application to prevent and treat lung diseases under the background the post-epidemic era using data-mining technology. Method: The CNKI, Wanfang database, and VIP database were searched for clinical study articles on lung diseases treated by acupoint application published in the past 5 years. Data-eligible papers were extracted to establish a database of acupoint application for lung disease using Microsoft Excel 2019, with the goal of analyzing the frequency of acupoints, acupoint-meridian association, acupoint-location association, specific acupoint frequency, and cluster analysis. Association rules, consisting of acupoints with an application frequency of ≥ 10, were devised by the Apriori algorithm to explore the correlation between acupoint groups and to analyze the rules of the compatibility of acupoint prescriptions. Results: A total of 229 eligible papers met our inclusion criteria. Forty-seven acupoints were applied, for a total frequency of acupoints of 1,035 times. Among these, acupoints for lung diseases were primarily distributed in the back-and-waist and chest-and-abdomen areas. From the analysis of the association rules, we obtained four groups of acupoint association rules based on acupoint clusters with a frequency ≥ 10 and found that Feishu (BL 13), Tiantu (CV 22), Dazhui (GV 14), Dingchuan (EX-B1), and Danzhong (CV 17) constitute the core acupoints of prescriptions for clinical acupoint application to prevent and treat lung diseases. Conclusion: It is clearly shown that the core acupoints are relatively concentrated and that the selected acupoints were mainly locally selected, which could be a matching reference for the long-term prevention and treatment of lung diseases, including COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

As a newly epidemic, 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) with a concentrated outbreak poses a great challenge to medical treatment. The severe and critical patients are complex complicatied with the psychological problems, and the medical staff are overworked and under tremendous psychological pressure. The surgeon participated in emergency medical rescue could provide professional treatment for the patients combined with surgical diseases, as well as specialized training for the non-surgeon crew, to reduce surgical-related mortality. With the advantages of good team consciousness, strong aseptic concept and good psychological quality, the surgeons can quickly adapt to and carry out rescue work under the premise of good self-protection. Surgeons need to develop critical care management concepts and focus on the critical care support equipment. Some suggestions are put forward for the standardized training of resident surgeons to cultivate compound talents. It is hoped that this article can lead to the thinking of how to participate in the emergency medical rescue of infectious diseases among surgeons and provide some enlightenment for future surgical education.
